Crystal Bay Lodge is located on the Inside Passage of the Alaska Panhandle and is a route for oceangoing vessels along a series of passages between the mainland and the coastal islands. Ships using the route can avoid some of the bad weather in the open ocean, and visit the many isolated communities like Petersburg,  along the route. It is traveled by cruise ships, freighters, tugs with tows, fishing craft and ships of the Alaska Marine Highway.  The inside passage is also famous for the site seeing opportunities including whale watching and trips to area glaciers.

Week of June 21:  Halibut fishing in Sumner Straight continues to be sporatic.  Fishing holes are producing 15 to 30 pound halibut.  King salmon run is starting strong this week.  Some guests have caught their annual limit of kings.
Week of June 28: Halibut fishing in Sumner Straight is starting to run strong. Guests are catching their daily limits and larger halibut, with the largest this week at 109 pounds. King salmon are still running strong and the catch is great!
Week of July 4: Halibut fishing is still strong in Sumner Straight, but the king salmon run is slowing down.
Week of July 12: Halibut fishing in Frederick Sound is awesome.  Limits caught daily, some as large as 150 pound, averaging at 32 pounds.  Silver salmon run is starting to come in, and we are already catching a few in Sumner Straight.
Week of July 19: The weather was an issue for fishing this week, keeping us off our halibut hole one day.  The halibut fishing continues to be strong.  The silver salmon run has not started, but we are hopeful within the next few days the silvers will be thick in the Narrows!
Week of July 26:  Halibut fishing is great.  Lodge guests are pulling in some larger halibut out of Fredrick Sound, average about 40 lbs.  Silver run has not yet started.
Week of August 2:  Halibut fishing continues to be strong in Fredrick Sound.   Started catching Silvers in the Narrows this week.  Hoping for a strong run this year.
